The Betchworth Wassail 2026 - bigger & better!

Our 2026 Wassail was a resounding success! If you missed it this year, be sure to come in January 2027...it's becoming very much a fixture in the Betchworth calendar.
We'll be posting a review of this evening of mildly bonkers fun soon, where we ‘bless’ the apple trees in the village orchard next to Golbourn Green. Children are especially welcome and had a bigger role to play this year – a special chant of their own and much more toast to hang in the trees.
If you're wondering what this is all about...a Wassail is a time-honoured, weird and wonderful ceremony to welcome in good spirits and scare away the not-so-good ones to keep the trees in good health. We poured warmed cider over the roots of the trees and the young people hung toast in the branches to attract the good spirits (and the robins!).
There's always plenty of mulled cider and other refreshments and its a marvellous opportunity to get together in community.
