 A record-breaking day for Applefest!

1

On Saturday 4 October we had a record-breaking turnout at Betchworth Village Hall for our annual apple pressing event.

Despite an iffy forecast and a brief downpour, the sun shone all day and great fun was had by all. We'll be posting the full report here soon, but here are some headline figures:
  • We had around 590 visitors.
  • 1.6 tonnes of fruit was juiced - more than three times last year’s volume!
  • 48 visitors brought 913kg of apples to be juiced
  • our picking team had already harvested around 700-800kg before the day
  • then the home team brought another 200-300kg on the morning
  • the children's activities, run by Betchworth Forest camp proved hugely popular
  • demand for home-made cakes, tea and coffee was non-stop
  • and the cake-baking competition had more entrants then ever!
More details to come. In the meantime, huge thanks to everybody who made this special day possible.
